Course in Planning, Designing and Developing Multimedia Products

PLAN, DESIGN AND DEVELOP

SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, is offering a new course for instructional designers

The department of educational technology of Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women’s University, Mumbai, is all set to offer a two-year, full-time course for developing instructional designers — Master’s in educational technology-computer applications (MET-CA).
“The four-semester course aims to equip you with essential skills. There is a dearth of instructional designers, not just in e-learning industries, but also in educational institutions that plan to make online content accessible to students. In the education space, use and application of technology can play an important role in imparting quality education. We need trained professionals who can address concerns such as facilitating the teaching-learning process, how to use strategies to facilitate learning, how to use ICT in education and how to evaluate learners innovatively,” says Jayshree Shinde, head, department of educational technology, SNDT Women’s University.

The subject areas covered in the new course include theories, design models, educational multimedia development and e-learning. Shinde adds that classrooms are equipped with computer systems and students do not need to go to a separate lab for practicals.
Regular teaching involves use of ICT — computer, internet and web-based collaboration tools. Students learn through collaborative and co-operative learning strategies such as jigsaw, think-pair-share and group discussions.
Talking about job opportunities, Shinde says that after completing the course, students can plan, design and develop educational multimedia products, educational web-resources and online learning environments. Students also have the option of working as interns in various e-learning industries and educational institutes.
The course is offered in modules so that students can complete a year and gain a postgraduate diploma in instructional design. Any woman graduate from a recognised university with 50% marks can apply
